Apple Crisp Shortbread Bars

Autumn is a magical time of year for many reasons. Take a weekend drive down a New England country road and you'll see what I mean. The warm colors of fall, blanket the earth welcoming the cool crispness in the air. There's a familiarity about it that feels like home.

One of the most beloved New England traditions is taking an annual trek to the orchard to pick your own apples. This past weekend, my family did just that. Bright and early on the last day of September, we arrived at the orchard with our little red wagon for our apple picking adventure. As we sipped our cider and devoured our apple cider donuts, we searched through the rows and rows of trees, looking for the perfect apples! Only the best apples can make the most delicious fall treats.

With my treasure of freshly picked apples, the following morning, I got busy preparing Apple Crisp Shortbread Bars. This has become one of our absolute favorite fall recipes. It combines a delicate buttery shortbread crust, warm apple pie filling, and a delectable crumble topping. Enjoy!
