Gobble: Honey-Hoisin Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Carrot-Ginger Puree Review
Honey-Hoisin Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Carrot-Ginger Puree was our last meal from our Gobble box. It was the perfect meal for a chilly Sunday Autumn evening. It made our house feel and smell homey and cozy.
This meal was the simplest of the three recipes to prepare but took the longest. The meal kit consisted of a pork tenderloin, pre-packaged carrot-ginger puree, pre-packaged honey hoisin sauce, a Chinese five spice packet, a packet of toasted sesame seeds, shiitake mushrooms, and green beans. Unlike the other recipes, I did not have to prep any vegetables, as they were ready to use as is. The only prep work involved was drying the pork tenderloin and coating it in the Chinese five spice. This was very simple.
The pork tenderloin was seared on the stove-top in an oven-safe saute pan. The honey-hoisin sauce was added to the pan, along with the green beans. The pan was then transferred into the oven to cook until the tenderloin was complete. When the tenderloin was cooked, it was set aside to rest. The Shiitake mushrooms were added to the pan and mixed with the green beans. The vegetables were cooked until done.
The carrot-ginger puree was simply heated in a microwave-safe bowl. The meal was then plated and garnished with toasted sesame seeds. Meal preparation can't get much easier than this, folks.
I gave tonight's meal 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Although I liked this meal, I didn't think it was spectacular. The honey-hoisin sauce dominated other flavors on the plate, it was difficult to taste anything else. That's not saying the flavor of the sauce wasn't pleasant, it was quite good but I would have liked to of tasted more flavors. The carrot-ginger puree lacked ginger flavor, it was extremely light and bland. The pork tenderloin was very tender, and the green beans and shiitake mushrooms were also a nice addition to the meal.
Gobble pretty much has the convenience factor of speed down, however, meals do take slightly longer than 10-15 minutes to prepare. Tonight's meal took me about 25 minutes to complete. This is still impressive, considering each meal I've had from Gobble have been close to restaurant quality, enjoyable and unique. The plated presentations are beautiful and feel special.
I enjoyed my meals from Gobble. I think receiving a Gobble box every now and then would be a nice break from heavy cooking, without compromising on the quality of the dish. This would be a wonderful subscription for anyone that has a busy schedule, and finding the time to plan, shop and cook meals is difficult for them. Depending on which meals you choose for your plan, it's a much healthier alternative to fast food/take out.
The calories per serving for each meal is stated on the recipe and the portions for each serving are very generous. The Gobble box also makes a wonderful gift for someone who wants to eat at home, but can't physically do much cooking. Gobble certainly keeps the stress out of dinner time and makes things simpler for you when they need to be.
For Gobble to be an excellent service, they need to improve on their packaging. When I received my box I noticed they only provided two ice packs. The box did not have an insulator to help sustain the cold temperature during shipping. I would like to see an improvement on this in the near future. Overall, I liked the meals Gobble had to offer, and I'm looking forward to trying more. I would definitely recommend this service to others.
